ILLINOIS – Here come higher utility bills

Do you get an automatic raise every year?

Because ComEd, Ameren and other Illinois utility companies want to guarantee an increase in their profits every year—and it’s Illinois consumers who will foot the bill.

Right now, the Illinois Commerce Commission evaluates all rate increases to make sure they are valid. But if the utilities have their way, they’ll skip that step entirely, and your rates will go up every year—with no oversight or accountability.

You can help us stop them. Sign our petition to House Speaker Michael Madigan and the Illinois General Assembly.

ComEd is already pushing for a $326 million rate hike on your utility bills.

And as if that were not enough, ComEd and other utility companies are pushing legislation that would allow them to automatically raise your electricity and natural gas bills every year for the next ten years by weakening oversight from the Illinois Commerce Commission that could rein in unjustified increases.

This Tuesday, the Illinois House of Representatives will hold a hearing about this legislation to raise your rates.

Make sure your legislators know where you stand.

Sincerely,

Brian Imus
Illinois PIRG State Director
